London is a very large city and is one of the best-rated cities in the world. In fact, for ten years in a row, it has won the best city in the world award. A reputation that isn't easily achieved for one year never mind for 10 years in a row. It is a city that is loved all over the world, not just in the UK.

Although London is a fantastic city to visit, it can be one of the more expensive cities, due to the reputation that it has. Furthermore, it is a large city so seeing everything over a couple of days can be difficult. If you want to truly enjoy London, you need to spend much longer than a weekend if you wish to see everything. Nevertheless, you can get a lot done in the space of a couple of days so let's take a look at a two-day itinerary for the capital of England and the UK.

Day One of Your London Trip

Oxford Street

As mentioned before, visiting all of the best places over the course of a weekend can be extremely difficult, however, you can still see some iconic sights in London. One of those places is Oxford Street.

Oxford Street is one of the most popular streets in London and it is easy to understand why once you arrive. Additionally, it can get very busy with city slickers, tourists and those who are just shopping. To ensure you can enjoy Oxford Street, go early in the morning, just when the shops are about to open to ensure there isn't too much footfall.

Piccadilly Circus

Piccadilly Circus is another fantastic spot that you must visit when enjoying your time in London. It is London's answer to the famous Times Square in New York. With large billboards, non-stop traffic and endless people, it certainly makes you feel like you are in Times Square. If you want to enjoy this section of the city with cars and buses beeping, consider Carnaby Street.

Leicester Square

Leicester Square is another must-visit destination when you are in London and is well-known all around the world. Although it is a great place to visit, there isn't much to offer other than overpriced takeaways and London has a lot more to offer than just takeaways.

Covent Garden

Up next is Covent Garden which is only a few minutes away from Leicester Square. This is a spot you have to prioritise due to the endless choices of shops, bars and restaurants. Not to mention a few market stalls that you can choose from.

Day 2

Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square is another great spot to visit when in London and the National Gallery is here as well. However, not everyone wants to spend hours in a museum then you can visit London's smallest police station. You also have Nelson's Column and the equestrian statue of King George IV.

Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament and the Famous Big Ben

This is the spot that everybody loves and can be the most popular spot in London for tourists. It is because three very iconic buildings are in roughly the same area. You can also have inside tours of these buildings if you wish to learn more about them.

London Eye

This is for those who don't mind climbing heights and can be the best spot for the city's stunning skyline. You can see all of the iconic buildings such as the River Thames, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge and the Shard.

One of the issues of the London Eye is that it is a very popular tourist attraction so the queue can be quite long and unpleasant if it is raining. Plus, it can cost you £29 when you book online but will cost £42 if you pay there and then. So, you should definitely pre-book your tickets online along with going early enough so you don't have to spend too long queueing.

Borough Market

Up next is Borough Market and you can get to this by walking by the river. This particular spot in London is great on a hot summer day and it is without a doubt the most beautiful spot in London. Here, you will see some of London's iconic landmarks including Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe, and Millennium Bridge.

The Shard

Last but not certainly not least is the Shard which is an iconic part of London and a spot where everyone has to experience. It has a total of 95 floors and is undoubtedly the best view in London. Plus, it only costs £28.50 per person which is very affordable in the grand scheme of things however, you can have access to one of the bars which is free. Just grab yourself a drink and enjoy the peace and quiet of the city while still getting the views in.

Summary

London is arguably the best city to visit, no matter whether you are someone from the UK or abroad, it is the perfect place to enjoy the capital. Even if you just visit for the day, there is plenty of parking in London or you can get on the train.

If you do intend to drive into the city, don't go too central as you can spend more time getting in and out of the city rather than touring the city. Parking near Hyde Park is the perfect distance for the city centre or maybe you can go a bit further out if you are happy with the walk.
