The Lake District is located in the North West of England in Cumbria and is one of the largest National Parks in the UK.

Grasmere is one of the prettiest villages and the lake lies to the south of the village where there are some gentle walks to be explored. Grasmere is where William Wordsworth was raised and you can visit two of his homes, Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount and see the family grave at St. Oswalds Church.

Hawkshead is home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery (run by the National Trust) and Hawkshead Grammar School, which Wordsworth attended. In the village there are several good pubs, tea shops and caf?s. Other popular villages include Kendal, Windermere and Ambleside.

Close to the market town of Keswick is Derwent water, which is said to be one of the prettiest lakes in the area. You can take a 50 minute cruise across the lake, stopping off a points along the way to enjoy the local scenery. Other lakes to explore by cruise include Windermere, Coniston Water and Ullswater.
