Since Covid-19, there has been a large increase in outdoor seating areas in people's back gardens whether that is with an open conservatory with bi-fold doors, garden rooms (studios) or just a porch.

A garden seating area is capable of completely transforming your back garden into an area that you can enjoy. Furthermore, if you purchase a patio heater, you can also enjoy this seating area in the winter so the investment isn't just for summer.

There are many things that you can do to make your backyard an enjoyable area where you can enjoy the weather.

Go Industrial With Metal Tables and Chairs

For a weatherproof and modern look in your garden, consider metal tables and chairs. You can either purchase a metal table and chairs set or you can get crafty yourself. Use metal tubes and clamps from steel and shape them into furniture.

Using metal tubing is very simple because you can cut them to the lengths that you want, with the use of clamps, it is easy to construct the furniture together. Then for the seats, all you need to do is chop some wood planks and drill them into the tubing. Then you can buy setting cushions which you can place on top of the planks.

Build a Home Bar

A home bar is something else that can be easily added to your back garden and is perfect for those who always have their friends over for a couple of drinks. A home bar is the perfect thing to add to your garden to create a communal seating area.

Get a small garden shed and then create a window in this shed. Then purchase some metal stools that can easily be stored but are tall enough to reach the top of the bar. If you want to splash the cash, consider purchasing adjustable bar stools so you cater for all sizes. You can also choose whether you have a low back or a tall back for your seats.

You can even create a theme with your garden bar if you wish. Consider a tiki-style theme to add something a little more than just a bar. So instead of purchasing metal or leather bar stools, consider purchasing wicker stools instead.

Reuse Spare Wood

Another great way to upgrade your garden into a seating area is by using spare wood. This is a very low-budget upgrade but it makes all the difference. You can also paint it whatever colour you like, allowing you to add more vibrant colours to your garden. Plus, you know that you can leave your furniture out in the rain so you need to worry about bringing it back in.

Buy A Corner Sofa

To keep things simple, you can buy an outdoor corner sofa that is made of rattan. These can be quite expensive but if you shop around, you should be able to find one that is affordable. Furthermore, it doesn't require craftsmanship. All you need to do is purchase your furniture and wait for it to be delivered.

Garden sofas are a simple addition and they don't look out of place. Additionally, they usually arrive with seating cushions that are the perfect size for your furniture. These sofa cushions are also weatherproof however, if you want to keep them in the best condition, should probably bring them back indoors.

You can place your corner sofa anywhere, whether that is in the corner of your garden or around a water feature or a fire pit.

Choose Sun Loungers To Create A More Relaxing Environment

If you live in the UK, there aren't many days where you can enjoy hot weather in the sunshine. However, on the occasional days when you do get sunshine, it would be good to enjoy it. So, consider purchasing a pair of sun loungers in the back garden. You can place them wherever you want, whether that is on a grass patch, decking or a concrete flag.

Consider Transforming Raised Beds In Seating Areas

If you have raised flower beds in your back garden, this can also be used for seating. Plus, it doesn't look out of place. As long you have a table or a fire pit next to your seats, you have already done enough to create a good sitting environment. If you want to add more to your back garden then consider purchasing waterproof storage. All you need to do is purchase cushion covers for your seating area and then.

To Conclude

There are so many different things that you can do with your back garden. Before you think too deeply about the design, you need to think about the more logistical side such as the materials you use. Not all materials last in the weather so you need to find a happy medium between the two.

There are other things that you must think of as well such as electrical cables, will they reach your seating area from inside your home? You may need an electrical heater so make sure you can get a wire to it. Other than that, you can start to create your outdoor seating area that can be enjoyed.
